The way it works is very simple, you get a blank canvass to 'paint' with different elements such as earth, water, lightening, metal, gas, lava and seeds. These elements, when combined with different controllable effects, such as sun, rain and temperature, will produce different results.
For example, if you plant seeds and then trigger the rain, the plants will grow. In the same way, if you melt rock, you will produce lava. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there are also many other, far more complicated possibilities to discover.
Graphically, The Sandbox is impeccable. While it may not have any breathtakingly detailed visuals, it does come with a lovely pixilated retro look, which will appeal to the more nostalgic among you.
The Sandbox is a fun game that has several different game modes. All of them, along with the open nature of the game itself, results in enough hours of gameplay to make it worth installing and never deleting from your terminal.
